ANDREA GRÜTZNER

Sharing works by Berlin-based artist Andrea Grützner, from her ongoing series: ‘Erbgericht’.

Unsurprisingly there’s been an incredible response to the artworks from collectors: along withthe intrigue behind their ‘construction’, the elegant forms and vibrant colours
are simply irresistible.

CONTEXT

Grützner’s photographs are taken in one analogue shot, without digital alterations. Through the use of colour flash and strong shadows, these historic interiors are transformed and distorted, challenging our perceptions of space. The title ‘Erbgericht’ refers to a traditional village guesthouse in eastern Germany. The one where the photographs were taken, close to where Grützner grew up in rural Saxony, was owned by one family over five generations.
“Photography is a complex field of possibilities with fundamental documentary properties. It is a medium with which one can document, manipulate, irritate, flatter, admire, and play. And time and again it is being used to touch the invisible and make it visible.”
_ ANDREA GRÜTZNER, 2018
